Depok-POLAR LAB, a laboratory under the auspices of the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), received a visit from the Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF) on February 12, 2025. The visit was attended by the Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology of EKRAF, Muhammad Neil El Himam; along with the Deputy’s staff, Kevin Maulana Kurniawan, and the Deputy’s secretariat, Mohammed Reza Pahlevi. In addition, several representatives from the Game Directorate, Digital Content Directorate, Application Directorate, and New Digital Technology Directorate, were also present at the meeting.

Along with the activity, POLAR LAB was introduced, which is one of the teaching factories at UI Vocational, as well as various studios of interest in the Media Production study program which are also included in it. Some of these studios of interest are PIXEL PALS (PIPA STUDIO) for animation and visual design; POJOKOMIK (POKO STUDIO) for comics and cartoons; TOBO STUDIO for toy & brick development; FLUI MEDIA for fashion and lifestyle media; WIRE MUSIC STUIO for music and audio; OX-LABORATORY for game development; MVP ESPORTS for esports management; SPICE STUDIO for UI-UX, AR/VR, Web-3 Dev, Bot/Software Programming; MOSAIC for OTT management and data intelligence; ICON for IP and media conversion; ORANG FILM UI for film production, photography, and music videos; VOTE. for digital journalism and e-publishing; and KULS CREATIVE STUDIO for e-advertisement, social media analytics, and gamification.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., said that the collaboration between the Media Production study program and EKRAF is one of the implementations of the Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed by UI and EKRAF some time ago. “We are trying to implement a collaborative space between universities, government, industry, and BUMN. The existence of this collaboration is expected to solve various problems that occur in the creative economy sector,” said Rangga.

The agenda of this visit was motivated by the advancement of Indonesia’s creative industry accompanied by high demand, but the available human resources are not yet adequate. Therefore, EKRAF is building collaboration with universities that can be partners in the development of creative media, one of which is the Media Production study program which has various interests in the creative field.

In addition, this collaboration is expected to encourage creative media in Indonesia to continue to grow. No exception, the Media Production study program that produces creative people can be one of the efforts of the Universitas Indonesia in contributing to the progress of the nation in the creative economy sector.
